Dimensional Weight Calculator
Compare actual and dimensional weight.
Change the example inputs to your own values. Check the method and limitations below.
How to use this calculator
Enter Length (in), Width (in), Height (in), Carrier divisor, Actual weight (lb). The result updates in your browser as you edit an input. The prefilled values are examples only.
How the estimate works
Divide cubic inches by the carrier divisor, then compare with actual weight. Carrier rounding can differ.
What can change the answer?
Carriers can use different divisors, dimension rounding, minimum weights, and service rules. Confirm current terms before purchasing a shipping label.
Before relying on the result
Measure the outside dimensions of the packed parcel in inches and its actual weight in pounds. Confirm the divisor, dimension rounding, minimum weight and service rules with the carrier. The displayed comparison is before carrier rounding and is not a shipping-price quote.
Worked example with the default inputs
A 12-by-10-by-8-inch package is 960 cubic inches. Dividing by 139 gives 6.91 pounds, above its five-pound actual weight. The carrier may then apply whole-pound or other billing rules.
Interpret the result in a planning record
The dimensional weight calculator multiplies package length, width and height, divides by the selected carrier divisor, and compares the result with actual weight. Use the packed parcel, not the item alone. Carrier rounding and service-specific rules can alter the billable weight, so confirm the divisor and conditions before buying a label.
Save the input values, units and result together. Change one uncertain input at a time so you can see which assumption moves the answer. A displayed decimal is arithmetic precision, rather than evidence that the measurements or rates are equally precise.
